Mahjong as a mind sport
Mahjong is one of the six games that the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) recognizes as a mind sport. The other five are chess, bridge, draughts, go and xiangqi (Chinese chess). The IMSA approved mahjong in April 2017.

The Mahjong International League (MIL) represents mahjong in the IMSA. It was created in 2015 and has its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. It brings together associations from more than 50 countries and regions. It recognizes three rulebooks: MCR, Riichi and Sichuan. Its goal is to bring mahjong closer to Olympic recognition.
The MIL promotes the Duplicate format, in which all the tables play the same deals. See how it works, with a video, in Learn: Duplicate format.
